I accepted the Lord as my Savior when I was 20 years old. The difference between my life prior to salvation and after is very clear. I can look back and see God clearly working in my life. I praise him for His mercy on me and for His leadng in my life. As a young Christian, I had a burning desire to serve the Lord. Every opportunity I had, I served the Lord. Jesus Christ has truly brought joy to my life. It wasn't long before I sensed the call of God on my life. I began to desire only one thing...His service. The relationship with the Lord in my life was real. I went to bible college and it was there that I met my wife, Deanna. I was searching and praying for a Godly young lady and the Lord provided me with one. It wasn't long before we fell in love. Shortly after that, we married. We joined together knowing that we both wanted to serve the Lord with our lives.
A few months after our wedding, we were hired as the youth pastor at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. We were still wet behind the ears so we learned a lot about ministry, people, and ourselves. It was a good experince for us that has helped shaped who we are today. After being at Pleasant Hill for about 2 years, we believe the Lord was leading us into missions. At that time, we felt the Lord leading us to the Country of Venezuela. We began our journy down the deputation trail with uncertainty but high expectiations in our Lord. The road ahead looked long as I only had 2 personal contacts; the Pastor I was saved under and the Pastor that I worked under. The only other thing I knew how to do was work hard and keep moving forward, asking the Lord to help me along the way. I called everyday, a minimum of 8 hours a day for months. As our calendar slowly filled up, we stayed busy presenting our work in every church that would allow us to come. After 18 months, the Lord had given us what we needed to leave for the field. At this time, Preseident Hugo Chavez had risen to power and the country of Venezuela was slowly becoming the next Cuba. After a series of events, we heard news of President Chavez suspending any and all missionary permits for new missionaries. Immediately, we began praying for God's perfect will in our lives. We contacted a lawyer in Venezuela who we hoped could help us with the process. He assured us that he could get us a visa. After working on it for a year, he finally conceded to the fact that it couldn't be done. God used all of this and more to work in our hearts about the country of Spain. After we confirmed our decision to come to Spain, the Lord began working in the hearts of Deanna's parents, Julio and Andrea Velasquez, and her brother and his wife, David and Favianna Velasquez, to also come to the country of Spain and work with us as a team.
We are excited about what God is going to do. We know that there will be tough times, however, seeing that one who humbly bows their head to our savior to accept Him and then to see their excitement as they learn the timeless truths of the Word of God, makes it is all worth it. Each day is another exciting day in the service of our God and Savior! |
