dvd

I wanted to give you an update on how God is already blessing this DVD Project. It truly amazes me how generous God’s people can be. So far, enough money has been given to produce and get the gospel to 8,622 households. Our team made the initial investment to buy enough supplies to get the Gospel to 5,000 households so in total and as of right now, we will be able to get the Gospel on DVD to 13,622 households.

BUT WAIT, THAT’S NOT ALL!!! Wait until you hear this. This is how amazing our God is. When we bought our first 5,000 DVD’s, the company that sold them to us shipped us the WRONG kind of DVD. The printer/duplicator that we have only takes InkJet DVD’s. When I ordered the first 5,000 DVD’s , it was with the duplicator so the salesman knew exactly what kind of DVD’s were needed for that machine. Apparently when they went to ship the DVD’s, they grabbed the wrong order and shipped us 5,000 of the wrong kind. So when I got the DVD’s here to Spain, I tried them out on our new fancy duplicator, and it didn’t work! I was about to pull my hairs out! So I got on the phone with the company and told them the problem and they decided to let us KEEP the DVD’s and REFUND our money. SO WE GOT 5,000 FREE DVD’s! HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD!!!. We were also able to find a way of using the 5,000 free DVDs. So right now we have enough to get the Gospel on DVD to 18,622 households. What an amazing opportunity. Remember, we are talking about households. You can multiply that number by 2 if not 3 and that’s how many people will have the chance to hear the Gospel on DVD.

The blessings don’t stop there. We have posted the video on YouTube and have had almost 1,000 views. We have given the weblink to various people who have wanted to share the video with their family and friends who don’t know the Lord. One man in particular sent it to many of his friends and family members. One of his friends who he has been witnessing to for many years received the video. He told me that after watching the video, something resonated in his heart and mind and he trusted Christ as his Lord and Savior. What a blessing it was to hear that. All the effort and money to produce the DVD was worth it for that one testimony. We have had such good response from this and we haven’t even started delivering them in our own city yet. Several missionaries to Spanish speaking countries around the world have already requested the DVD for use in their own city. We have begun duplicating the DVD and have duplicated almost 4,000. We are so excited about what the Lord is going to do through this Gospel DVD. Thank you for your prayers and gifts.

Do Social Networks Change Behavior?

Posted by Jeffrey Andrews in Culture

USAToday2

I saw this on one of the blogs that I follow and thought it was interesting.

USAToday published an interesting article today about the impact of the internet and social networking. Here are a few of the statistics they shared: How social-networking services affect the everyday behavior of millions of Americans:

  • An Ohio State University study links Facebook to lower grades. According to a survey of 219 students, published in April, those who said they use Facebook had grade-point averages of 3.0 to 3.5, and studied one to five hours a week.
  • Non-Facebook users had GPAs of 3.5 to 4.0 and studied 11 hours or more a week.
  • Nearly 80% of Facebook users said they believe it had no impact on their grades.
  • Corporate employees may fritter away nearly 1.5% of office productivity by using Facebook at work, according to a Nucleus Research study announced in July.
  • The University of Melbourne, however, says people who use the Internet for personal reasons at work are 9% more productive than those who don’t.
  • Fourteen states have passed measures to ban texting while driving.

How we can pray...

Posted by Jeffrey Andrews in Prayer Requests , Missionaries , Bible , Andrews Family

Many people ask how they can pray better for missionaries. As I was reading in my personal devotions this morning, the following passage jumped out at me. This is not only how to pray for us as Missionaries but how we can pray for our fellow Christians in general.

Paul writes in the book of Colossians in chapter 1 verses 9-10:

9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

He starts by saying that they “do not cease to pray” for the saints and faithful brethren at Colosse. He goes on to say that they are praying for and desiring that that they might be filled with the knowledge of the will of God in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. We may know the direction that God wants us to go. We may know that God wants us to be a preacher, a missionary, serve in a ministry, etc. but are we “filled with the knowledge of his will” having all wisdom and spiritual understanding to daily walk the road that He wants us to walk.

Paul goes on to explain just what the knowledge of His will, all wisdom, and spiritual understanding is for.

“That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;”

  1. That we may walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing. Do we walk worthy and please the Lord in all we do? Is our focus more on pleasing men then pleasing the Lord? So much of what we do many times in the ministry or in life is done because of what others may think about us. It is done for the pleasing of man instead of the pleasing of our Lord.
  2. Being Fruitful in every good work. If we are filled with the knowledge of His will, all wisdom and spiritual understanding, and we are walking worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, then we can be fruitful in every good work. When are works are done to man or for self gain, they are in vain. May we be fruitful in every good work.
  3. Increasing in the knowledge of God. This should be our daily desire. We have been put on this earth to serve and glorify our God. He has sacrificed His life, the life of His only begotten Son to give us salvation from the bondage of sin. He is our Savior. We should desire to increase in the knowledge of God.
May we pray for one another, as Paul and Timothy did for the saints at Colosse, that we will be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

It has begun!!!

Posted by Jeffrey Andrews in Spain , Missionaries , Ministry , Julio and Andrea Velasquez , Baptism , Andrews Family

group

We have begun holding bible studies at my in-laws house. Our first official bible study was last Sunday and one lady came. Yesterday, we held our second bible study and had 2 people. In the picture above, the man on the right side is named Fernando. He trusted Christ as Lord in Argentina and came to Spain 8 years ago. However, he has not been a part of a church since he came to Spain. He recently enrolled in a correspondence course that requires him to be a faithful member of a church. So he came for this reason. We are praying that he will continue to come, but that the Lord will work in his heart about being faithful to the Lord out of love for Him instead of doing what is required to do. The lady sitting next to him is Isabel. She started attending the church in Madrid that Deanna and I were working in. She was very faithful to the services. She use to take a bus from where she lives to the church that would take over 2 hours one way. The town where we live is much closer to where she lives. She was with us last week for our first bible study. During the last family camp, she put her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. She now wants to be baptized so we may hold our first ever baptism very soon. We are very excited. Pray for the work as we move forward. We have not even started our big "push" with the DVD project and the Lord is working. It is His work and not ours and we are just excited and honored to be a part of what He is doing.

Julio and Andrea Prayer Letter - September 2009

Posted by Julio and Andrea Velasquez in Prayer Letters , Missionaries , Ministry , Julio and Andrea Velasquez , Dollar/Euro

September 2009

Dear Co-laborers in Christ,

We are close to the end of a very hot summer.  Most days temperatures were in the high 90’s and nights would be very warm also.  Spaniards usually enjoy one full month of vacation time, either in July or August.  Now most people have returned home and within two weeks school will begin again.  This is the time we have been waiting for to begin distributing the DVD’s with a Gospel message.  We would like to thank all of those individuals and churches who have sent offerings for this project.  This will really help us purchase more DVD’s. If you have not sent in an offering yet, there is still time, since this is an ongoing project.  We will continue to give out these DVD’s until every home in Parla and the surrounding areas has heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We have been looking for a storefront building to rent in order to begin church services.  Most of the places we have looked at measure around 800-900 sq. feet and cost anywhere from $1200 and up each month.  Please pray that we will find the right place that God has for us.  Our desire is to use this building for church services as well as discipleship classes, English classes and counseling sessions.  We will use any means to reach people here in Parla with the Gospel.

While attending a Baptist church in Madrid over the past few months, we met a lady named Isabel, who had begun attending the church.  She was travelling over 2 hours every service to attend the services, but when she found out that we will begin services in Parla she was so excited because she lives fairly close to our city.  We thought she was already a believer in Christ, but last week while attending family camp, she realized that she was a religious person, but had never put her faith in Christ for salvation.  Now she is a true believer and is excited about attending our church as soon as we begin having services.  She wants to bring her family and friends to the services also. Praise the Lord for our first member in this new ministry.

As we mentioned in our last letter, Spain is full of immigrants from all over the world.  I have had the privilege of sharing the Gospel with at least 40 people over the past few weeks representing 8 different countries including Spain.   Please pray that the seed that was sown in their hearts will take root and many will come to know Christ as their personal Savior. One great blessing in my life this month was the salvation of my brother in Peru.  I have been praying for him for 34 years and he finally trusted Christ as his Savior.  He had gone to Cuzco to have surgery and we contacted a missionary there to see if he could share the Gospel with him.  He sent a man from his church who became friends with my brother and then shared how he could get saved.  Pray now as he returns home that he will be able to find a good church in order to grow spiritually.

Thank you so much for your prayers and faithful monthly support.  The Euro is getting strong again and makes it even more expensive for us to live here, but we know that God will continue to provide our needs.

May the Lord richly bless each of you as you serve Him.

In His Service,

Julio and Andrea Velasquez

Andrews Prayer Letter - September 2009

Posted by Jeffrey Andrews in Prayer Letters , Ministry , Andrews Family

Dear Praying Friends, Family, and Churches,

Again, it is a privilege to be able to report to you on allthat God is doing.  I must say this every time, but we count it such an honor to serve our Lord.  It is not about the place or the people, it is about our Lord. Obeying His command!

THE GOSPEL ON DVD PROJECT

We have received tremendous comments on this project.  Many have watched the video that we will be passing out and have given us great feedback.  Several missionaries who are working in Spanish speaking countries have requested the DVD so they could also use it to reach the people in their city.  Our goal is to reach the people of our city and now, God is going to use it to reach many more people around the world.  Several of the believers here in Spain have asked for the URL so they can email it to their family members who don’t know the Lord!!!  We are thrilled already at how God is blessing this effort.  This is not about us, but about His Word going forth.  So far, not including the money that we have invested as a team, churches and individuals have given enough to get the Gospel on DVD to over 3,400 people.  We have also been contacted by a Christian School who will use this project as their annual missions fund raising project.  HOW GOOD IS OUR GOD!!!

The BEST NEWS is that I now have the video available to view in ENGLISH!  Get on the internet and type in this URL into the address bar:  http://www.thatallmayknow.net/the-gospel-on-dvd-project.html

This will explain what we are doing and on the right side you can view the video in English and Spanish.  You can also see the video that I did explaining “HOW” we will get the DVD to 50,000 households in our city.  Please pray with us that God will do a great work through his Word being distributed on DVD.

For the past year, I have been learning Spanish while working in a church in Madrid under Jack Loveday.  It is hard to believe that the year has gone by so quickly.  It was a very busy year for us as we participated in everything and did whatever we could to help, while on top of that, I attended language school for 5 days a week 4 hours per day.  Missionary Jack Loveday  gave me the opportunity to preach once a month (even with my broken Spanish) which was a blessing and a huge help in learning the language.  To finish things off, I was able to participate in 3 of the 5 camps that they have during the summer.  I was a worker in pre-teen camp.  Deanna and I were counselors in teen camp, and we attended family camp as a family.  They are taxing weeks, but well worth it.  God blessed and spoke to my heart during each camp.

On August 23rd, Jack Loveday gave me the opportunity to preach during the Sunday night service.  It was the last of 3 evangelistic services.  We praise the Lord that one lady was saved that night.  It was also the last night for us at the church.  It was very emotional for us as we will miss the people of the Iglesia Bautista Bíblica de Villa Rosa very much.  They treated us like famiy and were a great encouragement to us during our time there.  We learned a lot from the Lovedays and will miss working with them.  It is now time for us to begin our own work.  We have begun looking for buildings and have had services already at my in-laws house.  One lady that we met at the church in Villa Rosa who lives much closer to us, was with us this past Sunday.

Pray for our new work here.  Pray for my Spanish as I am still in the learning process.  Pray that we can reach many people with this DVD project.
