Interview with a Priest PDF Print E-mail

steps.jpgWhile we were in Spain, we were able to sense the spiritual?anemic condition of the people.? Wanting to understand?more thoroughly their?beliefs and?spiritual outlook, we?gathered a list of basic questions to ask?them personally.??We stood outside of one of the prominent Catholic Churches in the city and began asking people if they would answer some questions?about religion and the Bible.?

Many people, when confronted, would not even give us the time of day.? After being rejected several times,?an older man dressed in clerical clothing came walking up the antiquated cement steps.? Politely, we asked him if he would allow us to interview him.??Reluctantly,?he agreed.??Below is what he said:

?

Q. Do you believe in God?

A. (Confused look ????) - no reponse?

Q. Do you believe in Jesus??

A. Yes?

Q. Who is Jesus Christ??

A. The son of God?

notebook.jpgQ. What happens when you die?

A. You either can go to an eternal happy place or be unhappy forever

Q. What is this happy place??

A. It is a place where you will spend with the loved one (did not say God, but he inferred God)

Q. How do you get there?

A. By doing what YOU BELIEVE God wants you to do and what he has put in everyone's heart.

Q. What does God want you to do?

A. To keep the sacraments and following the statues in the Word of God

Q. What are the sacraments??

A. There are seven, from?Baptism to the anointing of those who are about to die.

Q. What happens to those who don?t believe in God, where do they go??

A.? It depends, if they have followed the natural law of life, i.e. they haven?t offended other people or you are good to your neighbor, then you can go to this happy place.

Q. So even if a person doesn?t believe in God (Jesus) they can still go to heaven?

A. Yes, if they are good people (follow the natural law of life)

Q. So why did Jesus die?

A. So he could pay for?our sins

Q. Who can go to Heaven?

A. If you are a Catholic and you keep the sacraments, you will go to heaven.? If you are not a catholic and you keep the natural law of man, then you can go to heaven

Q. Is there a Hell?

A. Yes, but it is not a place of fire.

Q. But the Bible says it is a place of fire

A. You can?t take the Bible literally because it is a book of images. (Basically the catechism, which?the Popes have written, replaces the Bible)

Q. Do you read the Bible?

A. Yes, everyday. Since 1963. ?

As we walked away from that interview, we were truly baffled at what had just taken place.? As confusing as his statements were, the sad part was he seemed to truly believe what he was saying. What burdened our hearts even more was that this philosophy, this idealogy was the main teaching that the Spaniards are receiving.? When a Spaniard begins to ask about spiritual things, this is the type of credence they would receive.? They need the TRUTH OF GOD'S WORD!?
